The problem
L 59 (put forward 8 Oct 2026, planned in force 1 Jan 2027) gives the surviving legal parent of a child under 18 a new right to 12 weeks' fravær starting the day after the other parent's death. Dagpenge still needs the barselslov employment tests (§ 27/§ 28); parents on another forsørgelsesydelse keep that ydelse instead. Sociale forældre are out. Estimated public cost ~31.7 mio kr/year from 2027. Employers and devastated parents currently piece this together from press notes; payroll/HR has no checklist for the first death after New Year.
